A successful Director of Business Development will generate new business while growing existing relationships with mortgage brokers while promoting and educating brokers on Canadiana’s products.

Location: Toronto

Reports to: Vice President Sales

Key Responsibilities:


  • Promote our broker-focus quality products and unique business model.
  • Build and manage a portfolio of top performing brokers while maintaining Canadiana’s efficiency ratios
  • Maintain, Identify and develop new business relationships with mortgage brokers in your target market.
  • Meet Canadiana’s defined sales effectiveness activities on a monthly basis.
  • Attend and actively participate in monthly coaching, team meetings and joint fieldwork with your manager.
  • Participate in developing new marketing and sales strategies.
  • Constantly seek to meet and exceed sales targets.
  • Coaching with brokers on products, policies, submission and profitable business practices.
  • Assist in the creation of presentations, proposals, education and training materials.
  • Exhibit exemplary professionalism by maintaining the Business Code of Ethics at all times.
  • Identify trends in the mortgage market and stay informed of competitor offerings and strategies


  • Maintain constant communication with brokers to improve on existing relationships and quickly resolve concerns
  • Open communication with Underwriting and Service teams
  • Identify trends in the mortgage market and stay informed of competitor offerings and strategies
  • Provide market knowledge to head office with respect to needs and trends in the mortgage industry.
  • Utilize social media platforms including LinkedIN, Twitter, and video blogging

Educational /Technical Experience:

  • University/College degree in related field considered an asset
  • Proven track record in Sales and/or Account Management with exceeding sales targets
  • Minimum 5 years of successful sales experience
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the Canadian Mortgage Broker industry
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience with financial services
  • Experience and knowledge of social media platforms including LinkedIN, Facebook, Twitter, and Video blogging
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, mainly “Excel”

  • A track record of successful business development
  • Outstanding relationship management skills
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • A high degree of self-management.
  • Strong organization, planning and time management skills
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • Advanced selling skills, which includes the capacity to listen and communicate effectively with attention to detail.
  • Ability to identify, summarize and communicate critical market information
  • Ability to travel within the assigned territory.
